St. Thomas is one of three islands, including St. Croix and St. John, that make up the United States Virgin Islands. It is the second-largest island in the USVI. St. Thomas is a beautiful island with colorful buildings, incredible history and culture, and some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, featuring breathtaking turquoise waters. Its size of 32 square miles makes it possible to explore a large part of the island during a port stop in St. Thomas on a cruise.
If you are lucky enough to have this incredible island on your cruise itinerary, you will either port at the Havensight Cruise Port or at the Crown Bay Cruise Port. Keep reading to learn about both of these ports and the wonderful excursions that await you on the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Thomas.

Two Main Cruise Ports in St. Thomas, Havensight and Crown Bay
There are two main cruise ports on the island of St. Thomas: Havensight Cruise Port and Crown Bay Cruise Port. When cruising to St. Thomas, you will generally sail out of the Miami Cruise Port. The port you visit in St. Thomas will depend on the cruise line you are sailing with.
Both cruise ports offer beautiful views as you arrive on the island of St. Thomas. It is worth spending time on deck to take the perfect shot of the beautiful bay as you sail into your cruise port. Regardless of the port you visit, both cruise ports offer modern amenities for cruise passengers, including shops, cafes, and restaurants.
The main difference between the two cruise ports is that Havensight Cruise Port is larger and closer to downtown Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the US Virgin Islands. You can choose to walk to downtown Charlotte Amalie if you’d like. You can also take a quick taxi ride rather than walk.
Crown Bay Cruise Port is a bit farther away from downtown Charlotte Amalie, about two miles. While you can walk, it is much quicker to take a taxi if you would like to visit Charlotte Amalie.

Havensight Cruise Port
The Havensight Cruise Port is located in the southern part of the island. The cruise port is located in St. Thomas Bay, which is a deep-water bay. Making it a perfect place for cruise ships. Havensight Cruise Port can accommodate three docked cruise ships. If the port is busy, it can also accommodate a fourth cruise ship in the bay using tender boats to move passengers to and from the island of St. Thomas.
The main dock at this St. Thomas Cruise Port is the West Indian Company dock, the WICO dock. This dock is normally referred to as the Havensight pier and is the most forward docking point at Havensight. The other two docks are referred to as the Inner Anchorage and Outer Anchorage.
Ships that dock at Havensight
There are several cruise lines that routinely dock at Havensight Cruise Port. The cruise lines include Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, and Holland America Cruise Line. This is important to know in case you book a cruise and are interested in visiting a specific cruise port. Keep in mind that schedules can change based on need and the number of ships in port.

Disembarking at Havensight Cruise Port
The first thing you will notice when disembarking at the Havensight Cruise Port is that you are essentially disembarking straight onto the island of St. Thomas. While there is a pier at the further end of the port at the Outer Anchorage, you are more than likely not going to disembark on the pier itself. You disembark directly on the island.
Taxi Services at the Cruise Port
One of the first things you will encounter as you leave the cruise ship is locals offering their services, such as taxi rides into town and excursions throughout St. Thomas. Your first instinct might be to try to negotiate taxi fares with locals. It’s important to know that taxi prices are standardized on St. Thomas.
Taxi prices listed include prices for one passenger and two or more passengers and are priced per passenger. Prices range from $6.00 to $23.00 and are set based on the destination you would like to visit.
In addition to taxi services, you can also book a taxi for an island tour. Prices are per person and range from $75.00 for one person to $38.00 for two or more persons. As taxi service costs can change, information signs with taxi prices are posted throughout the area. You should consult the signs so you know exactly what your taxi will cost you.

Renting a Car at Havensight Cruise Port
If you would like to rent a car, Budget Car Rental is located toward the farther end of the cruise port, going towards Gate 4. If you plan on exploring the island on your own, keep in mind that you will need to drive on the left side of the road. The United States Virgin Islands is the only United States territory where residents drive on the left side of the road, as opposed to other areas of the United States.
ATM Machines at Havensight Cruise Port
If you are in need of an ATM, you will find a couple of ATMs within a short walking distance from the cruise port at Havensight Mall. The ATMs are located at the farther end of building seven of the Havensight Mall area.

Disembarking at Crown Bay Cruise Port
When you disembark at Crown Bay Cruise Port, you will disembark directly on a pier and make your way to the cruise terminal. The walk to the terminal is short, taking about 5 minutes or less.

There is also a wide variety of stores throughout Crown Bay, such as the cruise ship staple, Diamonds International, Effy, Del Sol, Cariloha, Little Switzerland, Miner’s Gems, Crocs, and many other duty-free shops.
Amenities Available at Crown Bay Cruise Port
At the Crown Bay Cruise Port, including the Crown Bay Center, you will find restrooms, convenience stores, ATMs, and a variety of places to grab a bite to eat.
